Notice of Race


1 . RULES -       The regatta will be governed by The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the prescriptions of US SAILING, the rules of participating classes, the rules of the First Coast Sailing Association (except as any of the foregoing are altered by the Sailing Instructions); and by the Sailing Instructions.


 2. ALTERATIONS OF CLASS RULES - The rules of all classes with yachts participating as a class are altered so that membership in the class is not required.


 3. ALTERATIONS OF RACING RULES -Mediation procedures will be in effect. This modifies Rule 63.


 4. ADVERTISING - The regatta is classified as a Category "C" Event in accordance with Appendix 1.


 5. ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY:

5.1 - Eligible yachts are those who have officially entered by completing a registration form with the         Rudder Club in advance or during the registration period as set forth in the Notice of Race. Display of sail numbers shall be in accordance with class rules.

 5.2  - It is anticipated that yachts will be divided into the following racing classes: Flying Scot, Sunfish, 420's, JY-15, Laser, Portsmouth mono-hull, Portsmouth multi-hull, and Cruising Classes. Additional classes may be accommodated provided the minimum requirement of Rule 5.3 is met.

             5.3 - A minimum of three registered yachts is necessary to constitute a class.

 5.4 -Cruiser class yachts are required to have a current PHRF rating certificate issued by the First Coast Sailing Association.

 6. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

 

SATURDAY 6 December - One design, and Portsmouth classes


              Registration: 0930-1045

              Sailors meeting: 1100

              Warning signal for first class: 1155

              SUNDAY 7 December - Cruisers , One design and Portsmouth classes.


              Cruiser Registration: 0945-1045

              Sailors (Cruisers) meeting: 1100

Warning signal for first one design class less multihull distance racers: 0925

Warning signal for cruiser classes and multihull long distance race: 1225

 

*Note - No one design starting sequence will be commenced after 1230.

 

 7. ADVANCE REGISTRATION

7.1 - Yachts may register in advance by completing the registration form and sending it with the appropriate fees to:

7.2 - Advance registration shall be postmarked no later than 29 November 2003.

 

8. FEES 

       8.1 Entry Fee - $25.00      $20.00 - Entrants with current US Sailing membership card in their possession or listed on the US SAILING Web Site as a member.  Entrance fee for Rudder Club members as per Rudder Club provisions.
 

 9. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS - Changes to this notice or the Sailing Instructions will be posted on the exterior bulletin board prior to 1000 on the morning of each race. Subsequent changes will be make in the form of a notice to Competitors. Schedule changes will be posted prior to 1900 (7:00 PM) on the day prior to the race. This notice, registration forms and sailing instructions will also be available on Gator Bowl Regatta Web Site at http://gatorbowl.home.comcast.net/.
 

10. REGATTA SITE The regatta site will be the Rudder Club of Jacksonville Inc.  

11. RACING AREA The racing area will be in the St. Johns River as depicted on NOAA Chart 11492 between the Buckman Bridge to the south and the Fuller Warren Bridge to the north.


12. COURSES Courses will be as shown in the Sailing Instructions.
 

13. SCORING The Low-point Scoring System, Appendix A of the racing rules, will apply. A yacht's total score will be the sum of her scores for all races. One race is necessary to constitute a series. A minimum of 3 races are necessary before a competitors worst race will be discarded.
 

14. PRIZES First, second, and third place prizes will be awarded in classes of more than five finishing yachts. First and second place prizes will be awarded in classes of four to five finishing yachts. A first place prize will be awarded in classes of three or less finishing yachts. Trophies will be awarded following racing on Sunday 7December 2003
